Over 200 years ago while journeying through Pennsylvania, the Troxell family was struck by the terrain’s resemblance to their homeland, Old Germany, and settled their farm. Seven generations later, their family’s culture, cuisine and ethics are still strongly influenced by their pioneering ancestors.
Galen Glen Winery, owned by Galen, Sarah and Erin Troxell, spans a U shaped glen, carved out of a rugged ridge and just north of the Blue Mountains, where the glaciers ended their journey 10,000 years ago. Even more ancient Crinoid fossils from the Silurian period (400 million BC) are readily found in one of our Riesling vineyards, aptly named Fossil Vineyard.
Galen Glen began in 1995 as after a collision of two events - Galen’s business trips to rural Germany, where grapevines were plentiful, and wine from a friend's honeymoon in Hawaii, which provided the inspirational spark. Galen Glen’s flagship varieties are cool climate, aromatic whites and reds - Grüner Veltliner, Riesling, Gewürztraminer, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Dorsa.
Continuing the family pioneering tradition, Galen Glen has the second oldest planting of Gruner Veltliner in the US, which has been hailed as ‘the best made in the US’ and ‘a benchmark’. Galen Glen welcomes guests Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays for Tastings year round. Curated wine and food classes and events are posted via social media and email.
